Characteristics of stainless steel bearings

Common Materials for Stainless Steel Bearings

The material characteristics of stainless steel bearings are mainly determined by the type of stainless steel they consist of. The following are the characteristics of some main stainless steel bearing materials:

Austenitic stainless steel

Corrosion resistance: Austenitic stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance. They can maintain stability in various environments, including water, acid, and saline environments.

Thermal resistance: Austenitic stainless steel can maintain its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties at relatively high temperatures, making it suitable for high-temperature environments.

Ductility and plasticity: Austenitic stainless steel has good ductility and plasticity, and can be processed into various complex shapes.

Martensitic stainless steel

Hardness and strength: Martensitic stainless steel has high hardness and strength, reaching 58-62HRC, much higher than austenitic stainless steel, and can withstand large loads. It is suitable for bearings that can withstand high loads, high speeds, and high-temperature environments.

Corrosion resistance: Compared to austenitic stainless steel, martensitic stainless steel has weaker corrosion resistance.

Process and Precision of Stainless Steel Bearings

  1. Preparation and processing
Firstly, choose the appropriate stainless steel material. Then, through heat and cold treatment processes, these raw materials are transformed into blanks that can be used to manufacture bearings. Next, high-precision CNC machine tools are used for cutting and grinding, and the blank is processed into components of various bearings, such as inner rings, outer rings, and rolling elements.

  2. Assembly

During the assembly phase, all bearing components are accurately assembled together. This includes the inner ring, outer ring, rolling element, and cage. During this process, it is necessary to ensure that all components meet the required precision and tolerances.

  3.  Cleaning and lubrication

After the assembly of the bearings, cleaning will be carried out to remove impurities and residues that may be generated during the manufacturing process. Then, the bearings are lubricated to reduce friction and wear, ensure smooth operation of the bearings, and extend their service life.

  4. Inspection and Packaging

Finally, all stainless steel bearings must undergo strict quality inspection to ensure that their dimensional accuracy, shape accuracy, and rotational accuracy meet the design requirements. The bearings that pass the inspection will be properly packaged to prevent damage during transportation and storage.

Application Fields of Stainless Steel Bearings

  • Medical equipment: Surgical robots, diagnostic equipment, and medical pumps are widely used in the medical industry due to their high-precision and high reliability bearings.

  • Marine applications: ship equipment, marine engineering equipment.
